No matter what the reason, we have a place for you. A quiet town, a wonderfully mellow climate, an incredible & famous narrow gauge steam train (Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad), terrific natural
surroundings including the Rio Grande National Forest & the Great Sand Dunes National Park, the scene for many movies including 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', and just a great place to be. Approximately 23,000 - 27,000 Sandhill Cranes migrate biannually through the San Luis Valley (SLV). In spring cranes arrive mid-February and most are gone by mid-April. Peak migration is usually mid-March (during the Monte Vista Crane Festival). The RMP of Greater Sandhill Cranes spend more time in the San Luis Valley than combined time at their wintering and breeding grounds. Our hotel over looks the spot that Indiana Jones jumped off the steam train and ran into the movie set film home of the Jones family in the blockbuster film Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
