The bowls are in a good, used condition. Please see the images as they are part of the description. Willy Villafuerte is featured in the finest galleries. For over 800 years the Chorotega Indians made a style of hand thrown, hand made, and hand-painted pottery which they passed down from generation to generation. In the town of Guaitil, located in the beautiful northwest province of Guanacaste, the residents continue making pottery in the Chorotega tradition. The most noted of the Guaitil based artisans is Willy Villafuerte. Firing pottery over wood fires in an outdoor kiln, Willy has totally hand created each of the pieces from scratch. These are made from special local volcanic clay called "iguana clay" left to dry in the sun, smoothed with a special piece of quartz, glazed with an organic local formula, and then incised into the ultra-smooth glaze to reveal the clay underneath creating the ancient designs.
