The first patent for Gold Filled watch cases was given to J. Boss on May 3, 1859. In making a gold filled case, two gold sheets were soldered together with a base metal in the center under pressure at high temperature and then sent through rolling mill under tremendous pressure and repeated until the desired thickness was reached. Gold filled cases were usually marked with a 10, 15, 20 25 and sometimes with a 30 year warranty. The number of years indicated the duration of guarantee that the gold would not wear to the base metal with everyday use. This watch hardly shows any wear at all and is highly collectable in this condition. Excellent original Silver Satin dial with raised Gold markers and a sub seconds chapter., unique original faceted peaked Crystal. Estimated value in this condition is $600-800. Watch is Seventeen Jewels and keeps good time.
